I agree, one of the Hunter and the band's better crafted pieces that withstood the test of time well. They played it the last time I saw the band at Deer Creek 7/2/95. It was a heavy, in your face, direct, kind of message - given the events of that evening. Nonetheless, it was the perfect thing to hear that night. It was the centerpiece of that show for me, coming out of It's All Too Much then going into drums and a particular poignant space with bells tolling and somber sweet sounds into Attics Of My Life. The Tear Jerkers were jerkin' the tears at that point. Not knowing the events in the weeks to follow, standing about 20 rows back from Jerry, the New Speedway > Attics seemed a somber and melancholic end to my live Grateful Dead journey of 25 years. I knew then, that it was over for me - and it felt like the band was saying it was over for them.

I'm with you bcb, lines from that song have gotten me through some heavy times as well. ahhh, the healing power of music . . . be well, bcb.
